What's Included in Full-Service Beverage Catering in Massachusetts

If you're planning a wedding or celebration in Massachusetts, the drinks can feel like the most scattered part of the to-do list. One vendor for the bar, another for the alcohol, a rental company for glassware, and a friend of a friend who's "great at making cocktails." Somewhere in the middle, you're the one holding the spreadsheet.
Full-service beverage catering exists to take that off your plate. In plain terms, it means one licensed team designs and runs your entire drink experience: the menu, the bar, the alcohol, the drinkware, the bartenders and support staff, and the breakdown at the end of the night. At The Wandering Pour, we start with a blank page instead of a package, and we build the whole thing around your event, your guests, and your venue.
Here's what that looks like in practice, and the questions worth asking before you book anyone.
What does full-service beverage catering include?
The short answer is everything between your first idea and your last guest's final sip, handled by one team. The longer answer is where the details live, so let's walk through them.

A beverage program built from scratch
Before there's a bar, there's a conversation. We begin at your first inquiry by asking how you want guests to feel, what you love to drink, what you'd never serve, and what the day looks like from welcome to last dance. From there, we shape a menu: signature cocktails with a story behind them, beer and wine selections, mocktails that feel as considered as everything else, and any special moments like a champagne toast or a late-night nightcap.
Nothing gets dropped in from a template. If your first date was at a dive bar with a legendary old fashioned, that can be on the menu. If half your guest list doesn't drink, the non-alcoholic offerings get the same care as the cocktails.
The bar itself, placed with your guests in mind
A beautiful bar in the wrong spot creates a line, and a line is where a party loses its momentum. Our bar rentals come with real thought about placement and guest flow: where the bar sits in relation to cocktail hour, the dance floor, and dinner; whether you need one station or three; and how to keep people circulating instead of queuing.

Our bars range from a 3.5-foot tap cart to wooden bars in 4-foot and 6-foot sizes and a 14-foot double circular bar, so the style and scale can match your space, whether that's a backyard in Marion or a ballroom in Boston.
The alcohol and every supply, brought to you
As a fully licensed Massachusetts 12C beverage caterer, we bring the alcohol too. That means you're not hauling cases from a package store or guessing at quantities. We help determine what to order for your guest count and timeline, then arrive with the spirits, beer, wine, mixers, fresh garnishes, ice, bar tools, and everything else needed for the services you've booked.
Drinkware that fits your style and your venue

Glassware is one of the most overlooked line items in event planning, and one of the most stressful to sort out. We offer biodegradable tumblers in our base pricing, they're a sustainable, easy-cleanup option that works especially well for outdoor and waterfront celebrations. If you'd rather have traditional glassware, we coordinate the order for you with our partnered rental companies, so you're not comparing rental catalogs or counting champagne flutes at midnight.

Bartenders and event support staff
Our bartenders are friendly, experienced, and trained to read a room. Our event support staff extend the service well beyond the bar. They handle bussing so tables stay tidy, tableside wine service during dinner, and beverage station management so your water, coffee, or welcome drinks stay stocked and look good all night. You won't be asking a bridesmaid to refill the lemonade.
Small bites, served with intention
Drinks taste better with something to pair them with.

Our roaming caviar service moves through cocktail hour and gives guests an elevated first bite. For morning-after gatherings and daytime events, our brunch boards, created with our partners at The Baker in New Bedford, anchor the table. We keep the food side focused and beverage-minded, so it complements your menu instead of competing with your caterer.
Setup, service, and breakdown
We arrive early, set up the bar, stock it, and test the flow before your first guest walks in. At the end of the night, we break everything down and pack it out. You get to leave the party as a guest instead of a project manager.
How is full-service beverage catering different from hiring a bartender or renting a bar?
This is one of the most common questions couples and planners ask, and the difference comes down to who is responsible for what.
What you hire | Who sources the alcohol | Who handles drinkware | Who designs the menu | Who staffs and runs service |
A bartender only | Usually you | Usually you | Often you, with some input | The bartender, with limited support |
A bar rental only | You | You | You | You |
Full-service beverage catering | We do | We do, or we coordinate it for you | We do, built around you | We do, with bartenders and support staff |
None of those options is wrong. But if you want one point of contact, one plan, and no gaps between vendors, full-service is the one that keeps the details from falling through the cracks.
Why a custom beverage program beats a cookie-cutter package
Many bar services work from tiered packages with the same menu, the same setup, and the same timeline for every event. That's efficient for them. It isn't always right for you.
We're anything but cookie cutter. Every program starts with your event, so the details change with the day:
A tented July wedding in Duxbury might call for a lighter, citrus-forward menu, a second water and lemonade station, and a bar tucked out of the sun.
A Provincetown celebration might lean into the salt air with a seafood-friendly wine list and a layout that works with the wind.
A November wedding in Plymouth might open with warm cider cocktails and a cozy bar tucked near the fireplace.
A corporate event in Boston might need a polished, fast-moving bar that keeps conversation flowing without a long line.
The point isn't the examples. It's that your menu, your bar, your drinkware, and your staffing plan should all be chosen on purpose, for you.
Where do we serve? From Peabody to Provincetown.
Our home base is in Fairhaven, MA, and we travel the full stretch of the Massachusetts coast, from Peabody down to Provincetown. We bring the bar to Boston, Duxbury, Plymouth, Marion, New Bedford, Bourne, Provincetown, and the communities in between. We work alongside your venue team on load-in and timing so nothing about the logistics lands on your shoulders.

Who do we work with?
Weddings are our main clientele, and we love building a bar that feels like part of the story of your day. Corporate events and private celebrations have our hearts too, from milestone birthdays and holiday parties to intimate dinners at home. Private residence events are some of our favorites, because there's something special about creating a bar in a place that holds so many memories.
What affects the cost, and when should you book?
Because every program is custom, pricing is built around your event instead of pulled from a menu. The biggest factors are:
Guest count and event length
The number and type of bars
Menu complexity and spirit selection
Staffing needs, including bussing, tableside wine service, and station management
Drinkware choice
Food add-ons like roaming caviar service or brunch boards
Travel and venue logistics
A good rule of thumb is to reach out as soon as you've secured your date and venue. Peak-season Saturdays tend to book first, and the earlier we start, the more room there is to design something thoughtful.
Questions to ask any beverage caterer before you sign
Whether you work with us or someone else, these questions will tell you a lot:
Are you licensed to provide the alcohol, and who is responsible for ordering it?
How do you determine quantities for my guest count and timeline?
Who designs the menu, and is it built for me or chosen from a set package?
What drinkware is included, and who coordinates glassware orders?
What does your staffing plan look like beyond the bartenders?
How do you plan the bar placement and guest flow at my venue?
Can I do a tasting before I commit?
What happens at breakdown, and who handles the cleanup?

Can you handle glassware and drinkware? Yes. We offer biodegradable tumblers, or we can coordinate a glassware order for you if you prefer traditional glassware.
Do you offer non-alcoholic drinks? Absolutely. Mocktails, zero-proof options, and drink stations are part of our menus, designed with the same attention as the cocktails.
