Newport Wedding Bar at The Royce: Custom Cocktails, a Nor'easter, and a Plan B That Shined
Some weddings come together exactly as planned. And then there are the ones where a nor'easter rolls up the coast, the forecast changes by the hour, and the whole team gets to show what they're made of. A and B's wedding at The Royce Newport was the second kind, and I'd happily do it all over again.

I'm Kristen, owner of The Wandering Pour, and this day was a great reminder of why I love what I do. We're a fully licensed Massachusetts mobile bar and beverage catering company, but mobile bar only tells part of our story. Our work as a Newport beverage caterer is built around the couple, the venue, and the moment, and sometimes that means adapting on the fly.
When the Forecast Calls for Plan B
If you're planning a coastal wedding in New England, weather is part of the conversation, and it's one we always bring to the table early. When a nor'easter moved through Newport, A and B's day shifted to Plan B. What I'm proudest of is how calm and welcoming the whole
day stayed. Nobody at that wedding felt a pivot. They felt celebrated.
That's what happens when a team of vendors truly cares about the couple. Dana Marie Weddings kept everything flowing beautifully, the team at The Royce was gracious and one step ahead, and every vendor stepped in without missing a beat. The result was a day that felt effortless, even while the weather had other plans.
A Venue That Takes Your Breath Away
The inside of The Royce is stunning. Rich details, graceful architecture, and an atmosphere that feels like a true Newport celebration. It's easy to see why couples fall in love with it. When Plan B moved the celebration indoors, the venue didn't feel like a backup at all. It felt like the plan all along.
Ashlyn Henry Photo captured A and B's day with such care and warmth. She has a gift for being present without ever being in the way, so the quiet moments, the happy tears, and the big laughs were all caught exactly as they happened. Every detail, from the getting-ready jitters to the last dance, was treated like it mattered, because to A and B, it did. I can't wait for them to relive every moment through her images, and I know they'll treasure them for years to come.
Meet the Ruby: A Wooden Bar With Heart
For this Newport wedding bar, we brought in the Ruby, our 4' wooden bar. She's compact, warm, and full of character, which made it the perfect fit for an elegant indoor space.
We set the Ruby up with the backdrop of The Royce's butler's pantry behind her, and the effect was magical. It didn't feel like a bar had been brought in. It felt like the venue had always had one, like a hidden gem tucked into the house. That's the kind of intentional detail that makes a space feel designed rather than decorated.
This is also something I love for couples to know. We're more than a mobile bar.
The Wandering Pour offers multiple bar formats, from wooden bars like the Ruby to larger full-service setups using our 14' circular bar called The Ocean, and every one comes with custom beverage programming tailored to your event. The right bar depends on your venue, your guest count, your style, and yes, sometimes your weather.
Two Signature Cocktails, Two Love Stories in a Glass
Custom cocktails are one of our favorite parts of wedding beverage catering, because a signature drink is a little piece of the couple's story. For A and B, we crafted two:
The Garden Party. Fresh, floral, and beautifully balanced, this one was finished with a rose bud and a sprig of thyme. It looked like a bouquet in a glass, and it set the tone for the whole celebration.
The Stone Fruit Sour. Silky, bright, and just a little bit unexpected, this sour was topped with a branded citrus and a sprig of rosemary. The personalized touch carried the couple's wedding details right into the glass, and guests loved it.
Both drinks were designed to feel like A and B: thoughtful, warm, and a every bit special. Garnishes aren't an afterthought for us. A rose bud, a sprig of thyme, a branded citrus wheel. These are the tiny details guests notice and remember.
Raw Bar Pairing Done Right

No Newport wedding feels complete without something fresh from the sea, and 401 Oyster delivered a gorgeous raw bar that paired perfectly with the cocktail lineup. Crisp, bright cocktails and briny oysters are a natural match, and watching guests move between the two was a joy.

Intentional Details, Memorable Results
That's the heart of what we do. Every cocktail, every garnish, and every bar setup is chosen with care, so you and your guests feel taken care of from the first sip. A and B's wedding showed me again that when a team leads with hospitality, even a nor'easter can't dim the day.
If you're dreaming up a wedding in Newport or anywhere along the coast, I'd love to hear about it. Reach out to start building your beverage program, and let's create something your guests will talk about long after the last dance.
Cheers to A and B, and to every love story we get to be part of.
